Georges St. Pierre vs Matt Serra Rumored to Headline UFC 83 Card

The UFC will invade the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 19th, 2008, and who better to headline the main event than Georges St. Pierre. This match is still only speculation at this time, however if you listen to both parties (St. Pierre and Serra) you have to think that this match is going to take place.

Georges St. Pierre is regarded by many to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC right now. He is scary good and just seems to improve with every fight. He recently took apart Matt Hughes at UFC 79 - Nemesis and will be looking to avenge his UFC 69 loss to Matt Serra.

This fight was a massive upset and shocked many. Serra was a major underdog heading into the April 7th, 2007 match-up with St. Pierre but came out on top, winning via TKO in the first round. Many anticipate that St. Pierre will be intent on destroying Serra to maintain his legacy. St. Pierre will enter this fight with a 15-2-0 lifetime record, with his losses coming against Matt Serra and Matt Hughes at UFC 50 - The War of '04. St. Pierre has beaten many tough opponents over his career, including B.J. Penn, Sean Sherk and Josh Koscheck.

Serra will be returning to the UFC in his first fight since injuring his back a few months ago. This injury resulted in the cancellation of the proposed Hughes/Serra fight. Serra currently has a record of 9-4-0, with four of his victories coming via submission. Serra's last fight was nearly a year ago - people are wondering if he will be able to shake off the ring rust and defeat one of the toughest fighters in the UFC. Serra will also be looking to protect his legacy in this fight. Was his victory against St. Pierre a fluke, or is Serra really that good?
