Full UFC 83 Card Announced; Odds For Main Event Released

 |

The UFC is invading Canada and the Bell Centre on April 19th, 2008, with their "Serra vs. St. Pierre 2" event. The event, which will feature Quebec's own Georges St. Pierre in the main event, sold over 13,000 tickets in just the first day of sales and is expected to be a total sell-out sometime this week.
The card will feature 10 fights, more than the usual 9 bouts that are typically on a UFC card.
The fights on the "main card" will be as follows:
Matt Serra vs Georges St. Pierre
Travis Lutter vs Rich Franklin
Nate Quarry vs Kalib Starnes
Charles McCarthy vs Michael Bisping
Mark Bocek vs Mac Danzig
The "Preliminary Bouts" will be as follows:
Jason MacDonald vs Joe Doerksen
Sam Stout vs Rich Clementi
Ed Herman vs Demian Maia
Jonathan Goulet vs Kuniyoshi Hironaka
Patrick Cote vs TBA
Preliminary odds have been released for the St. Pierre / Serra main event.
Even though Serra is the current UFC Welterweight Champion, many view his victory against St. Pierre at UFC 69 as a fluke that will not be able to be duplicated. St. Pierre is arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the UFC and has seemingly gotten much better since his initial bout against Serra.
Serra is currently a +370 underdog in this bout, and St. Pierre is a -450 favorite. This means that if you wagered $100 on Serra to win, then you would win $370 back in profit. On the other hand, you would need to wager $450 to win back $100 on St. Pierre. This just goes to show you how much respect St. Pierre has with the betting community if he is this much of a favorite over a current champion.
Many wonder how Serra's back will hold up against St. Pierre, as Serra was forced to pull out of a proposed fight against Matt Hughes when he suffered a herniated disc in his back while training. This is going to be Matt "The Terror" Serra's first fight since April of last year, and many are wondering if he will be able to shake off the ring rust and be one of the top fighters in the game. Serra has won four of his last seven fights.
Georges "Rush" St. Pierre currently has a record of 15-2-0, with his two losses coming against Matt Serra and Matt Hughes. St. Pierre has avenged his loss (twice) to Matt Hughes by knocking him out at UFC 65 - Bad Intentions and making him tap at UFC 79 - Nemesis; now, can he do the same to Matt Serra at UFC 83?
Since his loss to Serra, St. Pierre has come back with two impressive victories against Josh Koscheck and Matt Hughes. St. Pierre is just looking better and better, and with the hometown crowd behind him, he will be very hard to beat at UFC 83. I would expect St. Pierre to be closer to a -500 favorite by the time that the event takes place in April. Expect heavy money being bet on St. Pierre as the fight draws closer.
