Quinton Jackson vs Forrest Griffin Set for UFC 86?

Yahoo is today reporting that there is a good chance that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs Forrest Griffin is now set as the UFC 86 main event, which will likely take place in Las Vegas on July 5th.

Jackson and Griffin are both currently filming the seventh season of the "Ultimate Fighter", and are serving as coaches. Dana White, president of the UFC, announced back in December that the two would be headlining a "major UFC event" after finishing up with the Ultimate Fighter 7.

Quinton Jackson is the current UFC light heavyweight champion, having defeated Chuck Liddell at UFC 71 - Liddell vs Jackson to win the title. He has had one successful title defense so far, a unanimous decision victory against Dan Henderson at UFC 75 - Champion vs Champion.

Jackson currently has a lifetime record of 29-6-0, with 14 of his victories coming via knockout and 7 coming via submission. He spent much of his career in PRIDE where he fought some of the best competition in the world, including the likes of Mauricio Rua and Wanderlei Silva. He shocked quite a few people by defeating Liddell so easily at UFC 71, and this certainly helped to cement his legacy as one of the top MMA fighters in the world.

His opponent, Forrest Griffin, made a name for himself in the first season of the Ultimate Fighter when he defeated Stephan Bonnar in the finale. He currently has a record of 15-4-0, with seven of his victories coming via submission. Griffin earned a shot at the light heavyweight title by defeating Mauricio Rua at UFC 76 in the third round via Rear Naked Choke. Rua is coincidentally one of the fighters who has defeated "Rampage".

Griffin has lost twice while in the UFC, dropping a bout to Keith Jardine at UFC 66 and losing via split decision to Tito Ortiz at UFC 59.

Betting odds for this bout will be posted as soon as we receive them.
