Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson to Fight Mike Tyson?

 |

Rumors are swirling that representatives for Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson and Mike Tyson are working on a deal that would see the two fighters square off in an EliteXC event.
This first caught our eye on Yahoo Sports. Yahoo! Sports cited an article on Mediatakeout.com which stated that Mike Tyson has tentatively agreed to take on Kimbo Slice sometime "late this year or early next year". I'm not sure how much trust we can put in this "rumor", but you can be sure that EliteXC would book this fight in a heartbeat if Tyson agreed to fight.
"Kimbo Slice" made a name for himself by appearing in "underground" fight videos that surfaced on the Internet. He currently has a professional MMA record of 2-0, having bludgeoned David "Tank" Abbott and Bo Cantrell in his first two fights. He is currently set to take on James Thompson on May 31st, when EliteXC and CBS air their first episode of CBS: "EliteXC: PRIMETIME".
This wouldn't be the first time that "Kimbo" has taken on a professional boxer. Ferguson took on former heavyweight champion Ray Mercer in an exhibition match in 2007, forcing Mercer to tap early in the first round.
Tyson has a lifetime professional boxing record of 50-6-0 (with two no contests) and hasn't fought since June of 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride in the sixth round. You know that if the money is right, then Tyson will show up for this fight. There will be a big curiosity factor involved in this fight, and I would expect that it would draw major mainstream attention if the fight were to be booked. Whether or not there is any truth to the rumor remains to be seen.
