EliteXC / CBS "Saturday Night Fights" Betting Odds and Information
 |

A live mixed martial arts event is going to be broadcast for the first time ever on a major US television network this Saturday. EliteXC and CBS have teamed up to broadcast "Saturday Night Fights", which will feature fighters including "Kimbo Slice", Robbie Lawler and Gina Carano.
Bodoglife.com have posted odds for a number of the fights on the card. Here you go:
Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (-600) vs James Thompson (+400) - After fighting a couple of absolute stiffs (David "Tank" Abbott and Bo Cantrell), Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson will face a slightly stiffer test when he takes on James Thompson. Thompson has publicly stated that he looks to take the fight with "Kimbo" to the ground, as he doesn't think that Ferguson has the skills to beat him down there. The question is - will the fight last that long? "Kimbo" has dispatched of his first two opponents in under a minute each, and Thompson has been knocked out in the first round in three of his last four fights. I think that "Kimbo" wins this fight, but I have a very hard time taking him at -600. Thompson has fought in various organizations, including PRIDE, but I don't think he can overcome the power of Ferguson.
Gina Carano (-350) vs Kaitlin Young (+275) - Gina "Conviction" Carano, another of EliteXC's much-hyped fighters, will be taking on Kaitlin Young. Carano has a perfect record of 5-0-0, and has won her first two fights in EliteXC. Kaitlin Young, on the other hand, is 4-1-0, having lost her last fight to Sara Schneider at BodogFIGHT - Nick Thompson vs. John Troyer. I know nothing about female MMA fighters, so I can't comment on this fight. All I know is that Carano is receiving a ton of hype, so it will be interesting to see how she does in this match-up.
Robbie Lawler (-220) vs Scott Smith (+180) - Robbie Lawler will be putting his middleweight title on the line against Scott Smith this Saturday. Lawler has a lifetime MMA record of 15-4-0, and is considered by many to be the fourth or fifth best middleweight fight in the world. He captured the middleweight title in September of 2007, defeating Murilo Rua at EliteXC - Uprising. Scott Smith has a lifetime record of 13-4-0, with 11 of his victories coming via knockout. He has fought in various organizations, including the UFC. His last match in the UFC was a second round submission loss to Ed Herman at UFC 72 - Victory. I think that Lawler successfully defends his title in this fight.
Other posted matches include:
Phil Baroni (-125) vs Joey Villasenor (-105)
Brett Rogers (-280) vs Jon Murphy (+220)
Carlton Haselrig (-200) vs Carlos Moreno (+160)
