Don't Sleep on the WEC Show That is Taking Place This Weekend
 |

Heading into this weekend, most casual MMA fans will tell you that they are looking forward to seeing the EliteXC card on CBS. Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson, like it or not, is one of the most popular fighters in the world, and many people will be tuning in just to see him fight.
The hardcore MMA fans are likely a bit more jacked up about another card that is taking place this weekend. Lost in all of the hype of the EliteXC debut on CBS is the fact that the WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) is putting on one hell of a card. This card is headlined by Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver, which could easily be a fight-of-the-year candidate. Both cards can be viewed for free on your TV (EliteXC on CBS, WEC on VERSUS), but I think that many people will overlook the excellent WEC 34 card in favor of the EliteXC event. This would be a big mistake.
As mentioned, the Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver fight will likely be one of the ages. You have former UFC Lightweight Champion, Jens "Lil Evil" Pulver squaring off against the man who is considered by many to be the best featherweight fighter in the world, "The California Kid" Urijah Faber.
Faber is the current WEC Featherweight Champion, and possesses a sterling lifetime MMA record of 20-1-0. Seven of his victories have come via knockout, and 10 have come via submission. His only lifetime loss came against Tyson Griffin at GC 42 - Summer Slam, way back in September of 2005. Since then, Faber has trounced his competition, winning an incredible 12 fights in a row. He has won all five of his WEC fights, including a recent second round submission victory against Jeff Curran at WEC 31 - Faber vs Curran. Faber's previous three WEC fights all ended in the first round.
Faber will face some stiff competition when he takes on Jens Pulver. Pulver is a former UFC lightweight champion, and was a coach on season five of the Ultimate Fighter. Pulver holds a professional MMA record of 22-8-1. Pulver has faced off against B.J. Penn twice in his lifetime (second round submission loss in 2007 and Majority Decision victory in 2002), and has posted victories against the likes of Joe Stevenson, Cub Swanson and Kenji Arai.
Urijah Faber is currently listed as a -350 favorite to win this fight, while Jens Pulver is listed at +275.
There are a number of other interesting fights on this card, including:
Yoshiro Maeda vs Miguel Angel Torres
Jeff Curran vs Mike Brown
The rest of the card includes:
Chuck Grigsby vs Mark Munoz
Kenneth Alexander vs Rob McCullough
Donald Cerrone vs Danny Castillo
Chase Beebe vs Will Ribeiro
Tim McKenzie vs Jeremy Lang
Alex Serdyukov vs Luis Sapo
Jose Aldo vs Alexandre Nogueira
Charlie Valencia vs Dominick Cruz
The event will take place on June 1st at 9 pm EST, live from the ARCO Arena in California.
