Dana White: "I Am Going to Make An Announcement Next Week That Will Blow People's Minds"
 |

ESPN:The Magazine recently conducted an interview with Dana White, President of the UFC.
In the interview, White touched on a number of interesting topics, including: Hughes v Alves at UFC 85 ("It's going to be a fun fight"), Georges St. Pierre vs BJ Penn ("Penn against GSP is a huge fight. I think that fight needs to happen") and Chuck Liddell ("He will fight in September in Atlanta, Georgia").
White goes on to make mention of an announcement that he will be making next week. He claims that this announcement will "rock the MMA world" and "blow people's minds". He goes on to say that his employees don't even know about the announcement as of yet, and that he is going to rent out a place next Thursday and tell them about it. He says that the deal is done, and that "it's an indicator of where this business is going over the next five years."
Of course this has fans of the UFC in a frenzy, speculating as to what the announcement could possibly be.
If the announcement truly is "mind-blowing" and not a letdown, then the announcement is likely either:
a) a TV deal with a major network
b) the legalization of MMA in New York
The article makes mention of the fact that White has been in New York multiple times as of late, conducting "business meetings".
Maybe he is having meetings with executives at FOX or ESPN? Perhaps the strong debut of EliteXC on CBS has finally convinced the major networks that Mixed Martial Arts is a viable product that will deliver strong ratings?
Or maybe Mixed Martial Arts will be legalized in New York, and Dana White is set to announce this, plus a UFC show at Madison Square Gardens?
Either one of these would be huge announcements. I'm leaning towards the television deal, especially after the strong debut for EliteXC this weekend on CBS. We'll find out in a week.
