Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. To the UFC? I Doubt It
 |

The online MMA world has been buzzing about the possibility of Floyd "Money" Mayweather, Jr. signing a deal with the UFC.
Several sites have breathlessly reported that it is a "done deal", and that UFC management will be paying Mayweather Jr. $200 million dollars, plus giving him an equity stake in the company.
People are assuming that Mayweather's recent "retirement" from boxing (he announced his retirement last week) and Dana White's pending "unbelievable" announcement are intertwined. Dana White has publicly stated that the announcement will not be a new TV deal, so many people are now jumping to the conclusion that the only "big" announcement left is a Mayweather Jr. signing.
Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but the idea of Dana White and company giving Mayweather Jr. $200 million, plus an equity stake in the company is laughable. First off, White has been publicly outspoken about not bringing boxers in to fight in the UFC. Anderson "Spider" Silva wanted to fight Roy Jones Jr., but Dana White turned him down. Why would he suddenly have a change of heart and bring Mayweather Jr. into the promotion? In addition to that, "Money" has made some disparaging remarks about MMA fighters and mixed martial arts in general in the past. I don't think that fans of the UFC would be too happy if the UFC suddenly welcomed Mayweather Jr. with open arms. It just doesn't make sense. Mayweather Jr. would suddenly go from fighting "The Big Show" at Wrestlemania to taking on top UFC talent? I don't think so.
In addition to all of that (as if that wasn't enough), Mayweather Jr. is now 31 years old and has 39 professional fights under his belt. No matter how good you are, 39 professional fights will take its toll on you. I don't think that Mayweather Jr's body would be able to handle MMA fights, especially given the fact that he has been fighting professionally for the last 12 years straight.
UFC fans don't want Mayweather Jr. I can't imagine that Dana White wants Mayweather Jr., no matter how many PPV buys he would bring the company. $200 million dollars, plus a stake in the company? I'm not sure who started this rumor, but it is almost certainly not true.
