Anderson "The Spider" Silva vs Patrick "The Predator" Cote Set for UFC 90
 |

Anderson Silva will be dropping back down to 185 pounds to defend his Middleweight title against Patrick Cote at UFC 90, the UFC announced earlier today. Silva vs Cote will headline the October 25th card which will be held at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
Patrick Cote earned a shot at the middleweight title when he defeated Ricardo Almeida via split decision at UFC 86 - Jackson vs Griffin. Since losing to Travis Lutter in the Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale, Cote has rattled off five straight victories against the likes of Drew McFedries, Kendall Grove and Scott Smith.
Anderson Silva, as mentioned, will be dropping down to middleweight to defend his title. Silva is coming off of an impressive victory against James Irvin earlier this month. Silva ventured up to the Light Heavyweight division to take on the overmatched Irvin - the fight lasted just over a minute, with Silva flooring Irvin with a straight right to the face after catching one of Irvin's kicks.
After the fight, Silva indicated that he wasn't done with the middleweight division, and would be dropping back down to defend his title. Originally Silva was slated to defend against Yushin Okami, however this fight was postponed after Okami injured his hand while training.
The unofficial plan, according to industry insiders, is to have Silva defend against Cote at UFC 90, and then Silva will move back up to Light Heavyweight for a "big" fight in late December. This is obviously contingent on Silva not being injured in his fight against Cote - Silva v Cote should be a fairly one-sided fight, so this will likely not be an issue.
Any fight involving Anderson "The Spider" Silva will be exciting, and I can't wait to watch this event in October.
