Antonio Silva and Edwin Dewees Both Fined and Suspended After Positive Steroid Tests
 |

According to MMA Weekly (link below), both Edwin Dewees (Affliction) and Antonio Silva (EliteXC) have been fined $2,500 and suspended for one full year after testing positive for banned substances.
California State Athletic Commission Assistant Executive Director Bill Douglas made the announcement earlier today that both fighters had tested positive for steroids. Dewees was found to have Nandrolone in his system following his loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at Affliction: "Banned", and Silva was found to have Boldenone in his bloodstream, an "anabolic steroid that is mainly veterinarian in nature", after his July 26th bout against Justin Eilers.
The positive test for Silva is yet another blow for EliteXC. Silva was their recently crowned heavyweight champion, having won the title with a second round TKO against Eilers in late July. EliteXC is already facing a money crunch, and having to deal with their heavyweight champion testing positive for steroids is not exactly the news that they want to deal with right now. EliteXC will now have to strip Silva of the title and have yet another match to determine their Heavyweight champion. Not exactly a great way to build the prestige of the title.
Silva has a lifetime professional record of 11-1-0, having beaten names such as Ricco Rodriguez and Justin Eilers. His lone loss came against Eric Pele at Bodogfight - USA vs Russia in 2006.
Edwin "Babyface" Dewees has a lifetime professional record of 35-13-0. He has spent time in a number of different promotions, including the UFC, HDNet Fights and Affliction. Dewees has fought a number of well-known names during his career, including the likes of Frank Trigg, Chris Leben and Rich Franklin. Can the "workaholic" Dewees, who has fought nearly 50 matches over the past 7+ years, resurrect his career after a year-long suspension?
Can EliteXC deal with yet another piece of bad news?
