Brock Lesnar Likely To Fight Cheick Kongo at UFC 91

The fight hasn't been officially signed as of yet, but a Brock Lesnar / Cheick Kongo fight at UFC 91 appears extremely likely at this point. According to a report in the Pioneer Press, the UFC have informed Lesnar that they want him to fight in November.

The event and Lesnar's opponent haven't "officially" been named as of yet, but the UFC recently announced that they will be hosting UFC 91 in Portland, Oregon on November 15th, so this would be the logical event for Lesnar to appear on. The UFC recently announced that Kenny Florian will be taking on Joe Stevenson at UFC 91, so a Lesnar / Kongo fight would be a great addition to the card.

Many were speculating that Kongo would be Lesnar's next opponent after "The Next Big Thing" pummelled Heath Herring at UFC 87.

Lesnar is quickly moving up the heavyweight rankings (a testament to how weak the division is, considering that Lesnar is 1-1 in the UFC) and is likely two wins away from a shot at the title. Like it or not, Lesnar is a big draw for the company, and they will be eager to give Lesnar a shot at winning the title.

Cheick Kongo currently has a professional MMA record of 12-4-1 with eight knockouts. If the UFC is looking to build Lesnar up (which they certainly are), then Kongo is a great opponent for Lesnar. Kongo only has one career submission victory, which is certainly a reason that the UFC will likely match the two fighters together. The last thing that the UFC wants is for Lesnar to get caught in another surprise submission, as he did in his fight against Frank Mir.

Kongo is 5-2 during his time in the UFC. He has beaten the likes of Mirko Filipovic and Assuerio Silva, and has lost to Heath Herring (UFC 82 - Pride of a Champion) and Carmelo Marrero (UFC 64 - Unstoppable).

We'll have more once the fight is officially announced, but barring injury, Lesnar vs Kongo at UFC 91 seems extremely likely at this point.
