Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock Set for Early October
 |

The third (and likely most important) edition of EliteXC's "Saturday Night Fights" on CBS will feature Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson vs Ken "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Shamrock in the main event, according to Sherdog.com. According to the article (linked below), the fight has officially been inked and EliteXC will be issuing a press release later today.
Shamrock was one of three names mentioned as possible opponents for "Kimbo" - the other two were Sean Gannon and Brett Rogers. If you have seen Kimbo's fight videos online, then you have likely seen his fight against Sean Gannon. Gannon is the only person to have beaten "Kimbo" in a street fight. Brett Rogers fought on the first "Saturday Night Fights" card, and called "Kimbo" out in the post-fight press conference. According to industry insiders, Rogers is being mentioned as the next opponent for Slice (should the promotion still be around at that point).
Shamrock seems like a logical choice for EliteXC. He is a well-known name who will likely be beaten handily by "Kimbo". Shamrock was at one time a great fighter, however the years have caught up to him (he is 44 years old). EliteXC is all about getting the highest ratings that it can possibly get right now, so inking Shamrock to fight Slice is a smart choice.
Ken Shamrock has only fought once in the past two years, and this was a first-round loss to Robert Berry via knockout. Shamrock has lost his last five fights in a row, including two lopsided losses to Tito Ortiz. Many people were surely be cheering for Shamrock, but he is likely going to get squashed in this match-up, which is exactly what EliteXC is going for. Kimbo's aura of invincibility took a major blow after his sub-standard, controversial fight against James Thompson in May. EliteXC understands that a strong "Kimbo" is imperative to their continued viability as a company, but the question is: is the cat already out of the bag? Will fans still buy the concept of an "invincible" Kimbo Slice? Probably not, but EliteXC is going to try anyways. Brett Rogers was the worst possible opponent for Slice, even though Slice likely wants to prove himself as a legitimate MMA fighter against a tougher quality of opponent. Why? Rogers is an "unknown" fighter who is completely capable of beating Kimbo. Talk about a disaster for EliteXC if Brett Rogers knocked out Kimbo Slice - that would likely spell the end of EliteXC.
Odds have not been officially released for this fight as of yet, but I would imagine that Kimbo will be a huge favorite. I really can't see Shamrock beating Slice - his only chance will be to catch the less-experienced Slice in some sort of a submission. If he tries to match blows with the much-younger Slice, then the fight will likely be over within a minute.
