Evan Tanner Dies At the Age of 37

Evan Tanner's body was discovered in the Palo Verde mountain area on Monday. He died at the age of 37.

Tanner recently embarked on a solo trip into the deserts of California. He was seeking to escape the "amazing congestion in which we exist day to day", according to a recent blog entry on his site.

Tanner apparently ran into trouble when his motorcycle ran out of gas. Tanner then attempted to walk back to civilization, but misjudged the distance and eventually ran out of water. His friends attempted to text Tanner to find out how he was doing, but they received no response. Tanner's friends reported him missing on Friday, and his body was recovered on Monday. Evan quickly succumbed to the scorching heat while attempting to find help.

Tanner publicly battled a number of demons, including alcohol abuse and a gambling problem. He was a free spirit that seemed to be well on his way to turning his life around, which made his death even more tragic.

Evan Tanner had a career professional record of 32-8-0, with 19 of his victories coming via submission. The high point of his career came at UFC 51, when he defeated David Terrell to win the vacant Middleweight championship.

RIP.
