UFC 91 Main Event Betting Line Moving In Brock Lesnar's Favor

When the betting odds became available for the November 15th tilt between Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture, Couture started out as a -140 favorite at most sportsbooks. Brock Lesnar was listed as a small +110 underdog.

Since then, most of the betting action has been on Brock Lesnar, forcing the books to adjust the line. As of September 12th, Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture are both listed at -115 to win. This means that since the line was introduced to the public, Lesnar has moved from a +110 underdog to a -115 favorite, while Randy Couture has moved from a -140 favorite to a -115 favorite.

Many people are nervous about betting on Couture for a number of reasons (even though he is still the defending UFC heavyweight champion). They are:

1. By the time UFC 91 rolls around, Couture will be a full 15 months removed from his last fight (a third round knockout of Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 74). There is no doubt that Couture has kept himself in phenomenal shape during that time, but will he be able to shake off 15 months of ring rust?

2. Couture's age. As great as Couture is, he is still 45 years old.

3. The weight difference. Couture has stated that he will fight Lesnar at 225 pounds. Lesnar, on the other hand, needs to cut in order to make weight of 265 pounds, and will likely be closer to 275 when the fight takes place. Can Couture overcome a 50 pound weight difference, especially against a skilled wrestler like Lesnar?

4. Lesnar hype. The Brock Lesnar hype train is back on its tracks after an impressive mauling of Heath Herring at UFC 87. Many people will bet on Lesnar because: a) he is a well-known name b) he is huge c) he looked invincible against Herring.

Let's not forget that Couture tamed the 6'8, 260 pound monster that is Tim Sylvia to win the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 68. That fight wasn't even close.

Can he do it again? Many people don't think so, and are putting their money where their mouth is. It will be interesting to see where the line moves between now and November 15th.
