Ken Shamrock vs Frank Shamrock Likely in 2009

An article published on ESPN.com yesterday (link below) has stated that Ken and Frank Shamrock have both agreed to fight each other, and that the fight will "likely" take place in April of 2009 under the EliteXC banner.

The two are adopted brothers, having both been taken in and mentored by Bob Shamrock when they were young boys. The two have no love-lost for each other, as Frank has publicly accused Ken of taking steroids while Ken has accused Frank of disrespecting their father. The two fighters have both signed a contract and will likely face off in a pay-per-view contest.

This will very likely be Ken Shamrock's last high-profile fight. He was initially scheduled to meet "Kimbo Slice" earlier this month on EliteXC: "Heat", however he was forced to pull out of the fight due to the re-opening of a nasty cut just hours before the scheduled bout. Ken Shamrock was seen as an easy victory for "Kimbo", due to Shamrock's old age (44 years old) and sub-par performances as of late. "Kimbo" then hastily agreed to a match with Seth Petruzelli, and we all know how that turned out. It was later revealed that Frank Shamrock, who was providing commentary for the event, had offered to step into the cage and fight "Slice" in his brother's place.

Frank Shamrock has a career record of 23-9-2, with 13 of his victories coming via submission. His last fight was a loss to Cung Le at Strikeforce - Shamrock vs Le. Shamrock suffered a broken arm in that fight, and Le was declared the victor. Frank Shamrock has fought a number of big names over the course of his career, including Tito Ortiz, Bas Rutten and Renzo Gracie.

Ken Shamrock has a lifetime professional MMA record of 26-13-2. He will be 45 years old by the time that he squares off with brother Frank Shamrock. Ken has lost 7 of his last 8 fights, and will be looking to end his career on a high note. He has lost to Tito Ortiz three times during that period, as well as to Rich Franklin, Don Frye and most recently, Robert Barry. Ken Shamrock is a living MMA legend who will be looking to close out his career with a win.

The date and location for this fight have not been agreed to as of yet. EliteXC has indicated that they are interested in showing the fight under their banner, and that the fight would likely take place in April of 2009.
