Petruzelli / Slice Rematch Coming?
 |

Are you itching to see Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson fight again before the end of the year?
If so, you may be in luck, as there are apparently indications that "Kimbo Slice" and his agent may be weighing the possibility of fighting on DREAM K-1's New Year's Eve card this year.
One of the names that has been bandied about as a possibly opponent for "Slice" on New Year's Eve? None other than Seth Petruzelli, the previously unknown fighter who "floored" Kimbo with a jab early in their fight this month. Petruzelli went on to knock Kimbo out in less than 15 seconds, and Elite XC's fledgling promotion crashed to the Earth.
Japan actually makes sense for "Kimbo Slice", and I have no doubt that he would receive a large welcome there. The UFC doesn't want him (unless he tries out for the "Ultimate Fighter", but he certainly won't agree to that) and Affliction doesn't have a place for him. Unless "Slice" wants to fight for a regional promotion (and make much less money), then one of his most viable options is Japan. Japan has a history of supporting fighters with substandard fighting skills and larger-than-life personalities (see Bob Sapp).
If the money is right, then I can't see "Slice" or Petruzelli turning down this match-up. "Slice" has publicly stated that he'll fight anyone if the money is right, and Petruzelli is currently running a smoothee shop. I'm sure that both fighters will gladly make their ways over to Japan if the pay is right.
For those who think that there would be no interest in a re-match - I think that you are wrong. I think people would be more than willing to watch a broadcast of this event on HDNet Fights just for the curiousity factor alone. Will there be more shenanigans in this fight? Will "Kimbo" get floored by a jab once again? How will the fans in Japan react to the two fighters? Can "Kimbo Slice" restore any of his shredded credibility? I know that I would be interested in seeing this fight, and I'm sure that I'm not alone. I'll admit that I would be watching this fight for all of the wrong reasons, but I would certainly watch it, just to see what would happen.
