Cro-Cop Vs Hong-Man Choi on December 31st

Mirko Filipovic announced on his blog a few days ago that he has officially signed a contract to fight Hong-Man Choi at the FieLDS Dynamite!! 2008 event this December 31st.

Filipovic said that 2008 "wasn't the best year for me" and that he's hoping "to end it in good spirit".

Filipovic goes on to say that although he only has two weeks to train specifically for Choi, he has been training hard after his last fight and is ready to go.

"Cro Cop" has a long and distinguished career as a mixed martial arts fighter. He is currently 23-6-2, with his last fight (against Alistair Overeem) being declared a no-contest after an illegal knee to the groin.

Filipovic has fought many top fighters during his career, including the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Mirko briefly appeared in the UFC in 2007, losing his two fights against Cheick Kongo and Gabriel Gonzaga before leaving the promotion. He is likely best remembered by casual MMA fans as the man on the receiving end of a devastating knockout kick against Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70.

Choi is 1-1 in his professional MMA career. He destroyed Bobby Ologun in 2006, but then lost to Fedor Emelianenko at Yarennoka! in 2007. Choi was landing some heavy shots on Fedor, but eventually fell victim to an armbar and was forced to tap.

This should certainly be an "interesting" fight.
