Four Great Events In the Last Half of January

There hasn't been much happening in the world of mixed martial arts since the conclusion of UFC 92. The first half of January has been extremely quiet, but don't worry - business is about to pick up.

There are no less than four terrific mixed martial arts events over the next 16 days. Three of the events will be shown on PPV, while one will be available for free on the Versus channel. In this rough economy, it will be interesting to see if fans are willing to shell out money for three PPV events in two weeks.

Things will kick off this weekend when UFC 93 takes place from Dublin, Ireland. The event will feature Dan Henderson taking on Rich Franklin in the main event. Most fans are also anxious to see Rua vs Coleman and Marcus Davis vs Chris Lytle. All three should be great fights.

The weekend after that you have Affliction: "Day of Reckoning", which is scheduled to take place on January 24th. The main card is stacked - you have Fedor vs Arlovski in the main event, Vitor Belfort vs Matt Lindland and Renato Sobral vs Sokoudjou. You have to give Affliction credit - they are doing their very best to load up their cards with great fights. Whether or not they have what it takes to survive is another story. This PPV is absolutely crucial towards deciding the future of this company.

The very next day (January 25th) you have WEC 38: Varner vs Cerrone. Jamie Varner is taking on Donald Cerrone for the lightweight title, and Urijah Faber is taking on Jens Pulver in a rematch of their fight from a few months ago. This card will be available for free on the Versus channel.

Last but not least, you have UFC 94 taking place on January 31st. This card is pretty stacked from top to bottom. Georges St. Pierre is taking on BJ Penn in the main event, as two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world do battle.

Lyoto Machida will be taking on Thiago Silva in a very interesting clash of two undefeated fighters with two very different fighting styles. Bonnar vs Jones and Diaz vs Guida should also be tremendous fights.

The second half of January is going to be loaded with great cards - I can't wait.
