Possibilities for UFC 99
 |

Tim Leidecker of Sherdog reported earlier today (link below) about the current possibilities for UFC 99, which is set to take place in Cologne, Germany.
There have been a number of different potential matches floated for this event.
Couture vs Liddell IV was mentioned as a possibility, but this seemed to be something that was entirely made up by the rumor mill. Dana White denies that this fight was on the table at any time, and Randy Couture seemed to be significantly underwhelmed by the potential match-up when told about it.
The UFC, according to the article, is in ongoing negotiations to add a number of fights to this event which would surely pique the interest of MMA fans around the world.
One possible match-up is Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs either Tito Ortiz or Lyoto Machida.
Filipovic and the UFC both seem interested in seeing "Cro Cop" return to the Octagon, at least for one last fight. Dana White recently mentioned that the UFC and Filipovic parted on good terms, and that he would love to see Filipovic back in the organization.
Ortiz would obviously need to agree to a deal with the UFC in order to participate in this fight. His lack of a signed deal with another organization as of yet is telling, and most people expect that he will end up back with the UFC. His only real option right now is "Affliction", and their continued existence seems to be questionable at best.
The only problem for a "Cro Cop" vs Ortiz or Machida fight - which weight class would the fight be held at?
Another fight that has been mentioned as a possibility for this event is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cheick Kongo. With Randy Couture on the sidelines for the first half of 2009, this fight probably makes the most sense for Nogueira - I have a hard time coming up with other logical match-ups for him right now in the heavyweight division, other than against Randy Couture. This would be a strong co-main event fight.
BJ Penn vs Kenny Florian and Kenny Florian vs Diego Sanchez have also been mentioned as possible options for this card, depending on the results of UFC 94 and UFC 95.
UFC 99 could be a pretty loaded card - we'll keep you posted if we hear of any matches being signed for this event.
