Lesnar vs Mir II To Headline UFC 98 Event

UFC 98: Lesnar vs Mir II, which is scheduled to take place on May 23rd, 2009, is yet another monster PPV event for the UFC which will surely draw another million plus PPV buys.

Five matches have already been announced for the event, which is slated to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The big match? Obviously Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir, in a UFC Heavyweight title unification match.

This match sells itself. Frank Mir is the only fighter to ever stop Brock Lesnar, after he forced the behemoth to tap to a kneebar in the first round of their fight in February of 2008.

Since then, Lesnar has gone on to beat Heath Herring and Randy Couture - the latter match resulted in Lesnar claiming the UFC Heavyweight title.

Frank Mir spent time as a coach on the eighth season of the Ultimate Fighter. He then hammered his fellow coach, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, at UFC 92 to capture the interim Heavyweight title and earn a spot in the unification match against Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar is eager to avenge the only blemish on his record, while Mir is eager to lay claim (once again) to the title of undisputed UFC Heavyweight champion. Mir looked absolutely terrific against Nogueira, so this should be a spectacular fight.

Another big fight that has been formally announced for UFC 98 is Matt Hughes against Matt Serra. These two coached in the sixth season of the Ultimate Fighter, and were supposed to square off against one another at UFC 79. Serra was forced to withdraw due to an injury, and Matt Hughes fought Georges St. Pierre instead. St. Pierre destroyed Hughes and eventually went on to recapture his Welterweight title from Serra at UFC 83.

These two DO NOT like each other, which will just add another element of the match-up. Hughes has been hinting at retirement for a while now, so this may very well be his last fight in the UFC.

Other fights that have already been announced include:

Sean Sherk vs Frank Edgar
James Irvin vs Drew McFedries
George Roop vs Dave Kaplan

This will be a great event, and should do some tremendous business for the UFC.
