Matt Hughes: "GSP Felt Greasy"
 |

Legitimate gripe or just sour grapes?
Matt Hughes has weighed in on "Vaselinegate" (or "Greasegate" or whatever the hell you want to call it) in a recent blog posting on his site titled "UFC 94".
Now, if you don't know what "Greasegate" is, here is a quick recap:
During the Georges St. Pierre / B.J. Penn fight at UFC 94, multiple people noticed that St. Pierre cornerman Phil Nurse rubbed vaseline onto the back and shoulders of St. Pierre. This was reportedly done inadvertently - Nurse rubbed Vaseline onto St. Pierre's face, and then proceeded to massage his shoulders and back. There was apparently a minimal amount of Vaseline still on his hands, some of which was transferred to his back and shoulders.
Some people in the crowd (including Chuck Liddell) noticed this and alerted officials. An inspector entered the ring between rounds, wiped down St. Pierre's back, and allowed the fight to continue. St. Pierre, as you well know, went on to destroy B.J. Penn and retain his Welterweight title.
According to Sports Illustrated, B.J. Penn and his team decided to file a letter of complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, alleging that St. Pierre and his team used the Vaseline to gain an unfair advantage.
Several former opponents of St. Pierre have seized on this opportunity, saying that St. Pierre "felt greasy" in their fights.
One of these opponents is Matt Hughes. Hughes had this to say in his most recent blog posting:
"I'm not saying GSP did something wrong and I'm not saying that it would have changed any outcomes of any fights; but what I am saying is, for my last two fights against Georges, he felt greasy."
Is this a fair statement to make?
Or is this just sour grapes after St. Pierre absolutely manhandled Hughes in their last two matches?
Will other former opponents of St. Pierre continue to speak out and allege that St. Pierre "felt" greasy?
Stay tuned..
