Georges St. Pierre vs Thiago Alves Set For UFC 100
 |

According to MMAJunkie.com (link below), Dana White has confirmed in recent radio interviews that Georges St. Pierre will be defending his Welterweight title at UFC 100.
Many people assumed that Georges St. Pierre would be a part of the card after the Canadian-born fighter indicated that he would next fight "sometime in the summer".
This works out perfectly, as UFC 100 is set to take place on July 11th, 2009.
St. Pierre's opponent for his title defense in July will be Thiago Alves, who has been patiently waiting for his shot at the title after dispatching of Josh Koscheck at UFC 90.
Dana White has indicated that Alves has earned the next shot at St. Pierre and his title. In his last three fights, Alves has defeated Karo Parisyan, Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck.
It will be interesting to see if Alves will be able to make weight for this fight. Don't forget that:
a) he missed weight (by a mile) for his fight against Matt Hughes at UFC 85
b) he has tested positive for banned diuretics in the past
Thiago Alves is currently riding a 7 fight winning streak, and has only lost once (to Jon Fitch) in his last ten fights. He has certainly earned a shot at the title, and this should prove to be an interesting match-up. St. Pierre hasn't had to deal with someone as strong and big as Alves in the past.
Georges St. Pierre is coming off of a dominant (and controversial) win over B.J. Penn at UFC 94. I'd look for St. Pierre to make an emphatic statement at UFC 100, and I would expect him to be extra motivated for this match-up.
We'll have further updates when more UFC 100 matches are announced.
