Card Will Also Feature Chris Weidman vs Gegard MousasiPublished on January 27th, 2017 3:28 pm EST
For the first time in almost 22 years, the UFC will be returning to Buffalo with UFC 210 on April 8th, 2017. The event will be hosted by the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
Earlier this week, the UFC announced that a Light Heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson will be headlining the card. This will be the rematch between the two men, as Cormier defeated Johnson to win the Light Heavyweight title in May of 2015. With Jon Jones currently suspended, this is the only Light Heavyweight title fight that makes sense right now. It is widely assumed that the winner of this fight will be squaring off against a returning Jon Jones in the second half of 2017.
Cormier vs Johnson 2 was originally slated to take place at UFC 206, though Cormier was forced to pull out with a groin injury. UFC 206 ended up being just fine, however, as it was one of the most spectacular cards in UFC history.
Here is how UFC 210 looks as of this moment:
Daniel Cormier vs Anthony Johnson
Chris Weidman vs Gegard Mousasi
Patrick Cummins vs Jan Blachowicz
Shane Burgos vs Charles Rosa
Katlyn Chookagian vs Irene Aldana
The UFC will obviously round out the main card a bit more, though Cormier vs Johnson and Weidman vs Mousasi are almost certainly going to be your main and co-main events.
Anthony Johnson has been absolutely ferocious in his last three fights, as he has knocked out Glover Teixeira, Ryan Bader and Jimi Manuwa in succession. All but one of these fights lasted past the first round.
Since January of 2012, Anthony Johnson has lost just one fight, and that was against Daniel Cormier. Cormier will try to nullify Johnson's power by taking him to the ground early, while Johnson will try to rattle Cormier by connecting on a big punch early on. Cormier has a tremendous chin, however, and will be very hard to stop.
This should be a great fight.
