Injuries Forcing Major Changes to UFC 149 Main CardPublished on June 4th, 2012 8:18 pm EST
Much like UFC 148, UFC 149 (set to take place in Calgary) has been beset by numerous injuries that have caused a number of changes to the main card.
The original UFC 149 card was supposed to look something like this:
Jose Aldo vs Erik Koch
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cheick Kongo
Michael Bisping vs Tim Boetsch
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs Thiago Alves
Thiago Silva vs Mauricio Rua
First off, Yoshihiro Akiyama was forced to pull out of his match against Alves due to injury. In his place? Siyar Bahadurzada.
The Alves/Bahadurzada has been scrapped as well now thanks to an injury to Alves. The UFC decided to give Canadian Chris Clements the slot, and he will now be squaring off against Bahadurzada on the main card.
The Thiago Silva vs Mauricio Rua match has also been scrapped thanks to an injury to Silva. There are rumors abound that Glover Teixeira will be squaring off against Rua, but the match has not been compared as of yet. There were rumors that Rua did not want to fight Teixeira, but this has been denied by Rua's camp.
Another card that has been ravaged by injury, and the UFC is trying their best to patch up the card. The important thing right now is that the featherweight title fight between Aldo and Koch is still on.
