Daniel Cormier vs Jon "Bones" Jones Set For UFC 178

Alexander Gustafsson recently injured his knee and was forced to pull out of his planned rematch against Jon "Bones" Jones at UFC 178.

In his place? Former Strikeforce Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who will now be stepping in to fight Jones on September 27th in Las Vegas.

For many people, including Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier vs Jon Jones was the fight that people wanted to see in the first place. After all, Cormier is a former Strikeforce Heavyweight champion who has beaten the likes of Frank Mir, Josh Barnett and Dan Henderson. Since dropping down to Light Heavyweight, Cormier has been thoroughly dominant and should provide a great test for the Light Heavyweight champion.

In addition, Cormier and Jones legitimately don't like each other and the trash talk should be off the charts for this fight.

There are some questions about Cormier's knee, as he was originally going to have minor knee surgery performed while waiting for the winner of Jones/Gustafsson II, but Cormier says that he is ready to go and will be in top shape for his fight against Jones.

Jon Jones will certainly be facing the toughest test of his career when he battles Cormier. Cormier is a top wrestler who takes down his opponents at will and is also a powerful striker. Cormier certainly has the power to knock Jones out, and he will likely also be able to get the champion down to the mat.

This fight will be all kinds of interesting and I'm certainly glad that it is going to take place in September.
