Alistair Overeem Will Welcome Struve Back To The Octagon

The UFC announced earlier this week that Alistair Overeem is set to make his return to the Octagon on December 13th when he takes on the returning Stefan Struve. This fight is set for the main card of UFC on Fox 13, which is set to take place in Phoenix, Arizona.

This fight is a big one for both of its Dutch participants.

Alistair Overeem desperately needs a victory after being given another chance with the UFC. Overeem's most recent fight was a 1st round knockout loss against Ben Rothwell, which dropped Overeem's record in the UFC down to 2-3, with all three of the losses coming via knockout. Overeem was expected to immediately contend for a title in the UFC and has significantly underwhelmed expectations since signing with the promotion.

Stefan Struve, on the other hand, will be making his first appearance in the Octagon since losing in March of 2013 to Mark Hunt. Following that fight, Struve was diagnosed with a heart defect called a bicuspid aortic valve. There was some thought that Struve would never fight again, though he has been able to return to form thanks to medication. Struve was originally supposed to return against Matt Mitrione at UFC 175 but Struve was forced to withdraw after he suffered a panic attack before the fight.

Junior dos Santos vs Stipe Miocic has also been rumored for this card. There is a chance that the UFC may be putting these fights on the same card in order to possibly set up a Junior dos Santos vs Alistair Overeem fight, should both men win their bouts. The UFC has tried to put together Dos Santos vs Overeem twice before.

Overeem vs Struve should be a fantastically violent fight that is almost certain not to go to the final bell.
