Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone To Fight Ben Henderson on January 18th

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone likes to fight and fight often. The UFC is very glad of that fact tonight after Cerrone agreed to step in and face Benson "Smooth" Henderson on VERY short notice.

Eddie Alvarez reportedly suffered some sort of an injury and was forced to withdraw from his planned UFC Fight Night bout against Ben Henderson. The UFC was left to scramble for a replacement who would be willing to fight on short notice. Donald Cerrone, who just fought this past weekend at UFC 182 (victory over Myles Jury) and had indicated his desire to fight in February, quickly took the fight and helped the UFC put out a fire.

Donald Cerrone is currently in the midst of a six fight winning streak that has included wins over Eddie Alvarez, Edson Barboza and Evan Dunham. You would have to think that Cerrone would be in the discussion for a title shot if he beats Henderson on January 18th, especially given the fact that Cerrone bailed out the UFC by taking this fight on short notice.

This will be the third time that Henderson and Cerrone will have fought each other. Henderson is currently up 2-0, as he notched victories over Cerrone at WEC 43 (October, 2009) and WEC 48 (April, 2010).

Henderson is looking to rebound following a quick loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs dos Anjos. This fight sent Henderson tumbling down the Lightweight ladder and he desperately needs a win over Cerrone to stay near the top of the division.

With the injury to Eddie Alvarez, UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs Siver now looks like this:

Conor McGregor vs Dennis Siver
Donald Cerrone vs Benson Henderson
Uriah Hall vs Louis Taylor
Norman Parke vs Gleison Tibau

These are fantastic main and co-main events that the fans in Boston will be getting on January 18th, as both fights have real title implications. McGregor has been promised a shot at the Featherweight title with a win over Siver, while Cerrone would inch even closer to a Lightweight title shot with a win over Henderson.
