Nunes/Shevchenko Cancelled; Whittaker/Romero New Main Event

Remember when UFC 213 was supposed to feature TJ Dillashaw vs Cody Garbrandt in the main event?

Earlier today, UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes was pulled from the card after admitting herself to hospital. According to reports, Nunes was suffering from a tough weight cut and elected to pull herself from the event, despite receiving medical clearance to fight.

There was an attempt to find a replacement opponent for Valentina Shevchenko, though the Nevada Athletic Commission said that there wasn't enough time for a replacement opponent to be given the OK to fight.

This turn of events means that the main event for later tonight will be the interim title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker. This is certain to be a great fight, though the UFC likes to put on massive cards during its "International Fight Week" and UFC 213 certainly doesn't qualify, though there is not much that the promotion could have done, as Garbrandt vs Dillashaw, Robbie Lawler vs Donald Cerrone and Amanda Nunes vs Valentina Shevchenko were all scrapped from the card due to injuries or illnesses.

UFC 200 suffered a similar fate as UFC 213, as that card saw the fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier get cancelled at basically the last moment.

All eyes are now on the loaded UFC 214 card that is set to take place later this month. With such a blockbuster card in store for fans, people can't help but wonder if the MMA gods will wreak havoc on that card as well.
