Anderson Silva Continues on Road to UFC Return

Earlier this week, former Middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva was cleared by his doctors to start sparring once again.

According to MMAFighting.com, Silva's American doctors have given the thumbs up to Silva sparring once again, though "The Spider" is waiting to talk to his own doctor before moving ahead.

Anderson Silva shattered his leg during his fight with Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December of 2013. During the second round of their fight, Silva threw a leg kick at Weidman which was checked by the champion. Silva's leg shattered as the former Middleweight champion crumpled to the floor in agony. Given Silva's age, there were doubts as to whether or not we'd see him in the Octagon again.

Silva, though, was defiant from the beginning, claiming that he would be back. The recovery seemed to have gone very well, and now he is set to return to sparring roughly 7 months after his injury took place.

Silva's doctor, though, warns that the hardest part of the recovery will likely be overcoming the mental obstacles. Will Silva ever be able to throw a kick with the same force that he did before? That is the big question.

Anderson Silva and his team have stated that the former Middleweight champion hopes to return to the Octagon in late 2014 or early 2015. A number of opponents, including Nick Diaz and Michael Bisping, have been mentioned for Silva's return fight. Either one would be a great fight.

Let's hope that Silva continues to make progress as the UFC and its fans sorely miss the "Spider".
