According to reports, former UFC Lightweight champion Anthony "Showtime" Pettis has been forced out of his upcoming fight against Myles Jury due to an undisclosed injury.

In Pettis' place? Edson Barboza, who will now be taking on Jury at UFC on Fox 16 on Saturday, July 25th in Chicago, Illinois.

Anthony Pettis, who is widely regarded as being one of the most dynamic strikers in the world, has been beset by a variety of injuries over the past couple of years. Pettis was looking to rebound following his recent loss to Rafael dos Anjos but will now have to put that on hold while he recovers from his injury.

Coincidentally, Pettis took to Twitter about a week ago to taunt Khabib Nurmegomedov after Khabib was forced to pull out of his planned bout against Donald Cerrone at UFC 187 due to an injury. The injury bug decided that it wasn't done and decided to bite Pettis as well, putting him out of his planned UFC on Fox 16 fight against Myles Jury.

Pettis' injury raises a question that has been asked before - does the former Lightweight champion need to ramp down his training regimen in order to better avoid injury? Pettis is spending some of the best years of his career on the sidelines and that is frustrating to both himself and fight fans in general.
