Pettis Will Be Ineligible To Win Interim Featherweight Title on Saturday Night

There was some high drama at the UFC 206 weigh-ins earlier today.

Anthony "Showtime" Pettis, who will be fighting Max Holloway for the interim Featherweight title on Saturday night (or so we thought), ended up missing championship weight by a total of three pounds (148 vs 145). Pettis showed up to the scales looking gaunt and drawn and ended up missing weight.

Holloway, on the other hand, made weight with no issue.

The King is receiving some surprising news about the upcoming MMA event in Toronto. At the office. Hand on head.

The fight between Pettis and Holloway is still on, though Pettis will no longer be eligible to win the title.

If Holloway wins the fight, he will be named the new interim Featherweight champion and will presumably get the next shot against Jose Aldo.

If Pettis wins, he will not be named as the interim Featherweight champion, and the title picture at the top of the Featherweight division will be thrown into disarray once again. The UFC can't possibly give a title shot to a guy who missed weight, so it will be interesting to see what happens if Pettis wins on Saturday night.

In addition to no longer being eligible for the title, Pettis will give up 20% of his purse to Holloway.

For his part, Holloway said this on his Twitter account:

"3lbs is a lot to miss but the guy was trying and I respect that. At the end of the day it is what it is."

Pettis, who suffered through a presumably terrible weight cut, has seen his odds to win on Saturday night slip since missing weight. Pettis is currently around +200 at most sports books.
