Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva To Take on Frank Mir

According to the @UFCTonight Twitter account, former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir is set to take on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva at UFC 184:

BREAKING: Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva will fight Frank Mir at UFC 184 in Los Angeles and Miesha Tate will fight Sara McMann at UFC 183."

Both Frank Mir and Antonio Silva are showing signs of age as both men are currently in the midst of long winless streaks. Frank Mir has lost his last four fights in a row (Alistair Overeem, Josh Barnett, Junior dos Santos, Daniel Cormier) while Silva has not won in his last three fights (losses to Andrei Arlovski and Cain Velasquez, NC against Mark Hunt after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone).

It goes without saying that both men desperately need a win at UFC 184. In fact, the loser of this fight may find themselves either being forced to retire (Frank Mir) or cut from the promotion.

Both Silva and Mir are very good on the ground which means that that fight will likely be decided on the feet.

Mir can be very effective on the feet when he is given some space to work. However, as evidenced in his fights against Josh Barnett and Shane Carwin, if Mir is crowded and bullied into a corner he doesn't seem to know how to respond. It seems certain that Silva will attempt to do this to Mir at UFC 184.

UFC 184 is looking to be a very solid card - here is how it looks so far:

Chris Weidman vs Vitor Belfort
Ronda Rousey vs Cat Zingano
Antonio Silva vs Frank Mir
Ronaldo Souza vs Yoel Romero
Stephen Thompson vs Brandon Thatch
