Penn vs Edgar Set For Sunday, July 6th

The UFC officially confirmed earlier today that BJ Penn will be taking on Frankie Edgar at the Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale. The card will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Sunday, July 6th.

The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale card will be part of a massive fight weekend in Las Vegas. The UFC revealed earlier this week that they will be hosting TWO events in Las Vegas on the July 4th long weekend, with UFC 175 taking place on Saturday, July 6th. There haven't been any fights revealed for UFC 175 as of yet, but the July 4th card is always one of the promotion's biggest of the year.

BJ Penn will be looking to exact revenge on Frankie Edgar on July 6th, as Edgar is currently up 2-0 lifetime over the "Prodigy".

The first fight between Penn and Edgar at UFC 112 had a somewhat controversial decision, as many people felt as though Penn won the fight. Edgar came into that fight as a massive underdog and ended up beating Penn via unanimous decision. Up until that fight, Penn had been on a tear, destroying the likes of Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez.

Penn and Edgar squared off in a rematch at UFC 118, with Edgar leaving no doubt and soundly beating Penn over the course of their five round fight.

Penn vs Edgar III will be taking place at 145 pounds. How will Penn react to the cut down to 145? Will it have a positive impact on his legendarily subpar cardio?

Another interesting wrinkle to this fight - this will be Penn's first trip to the Octagon since December of 2012. After losing to Rory MacDonald at UFC on Fox 5, Penn announced that he was taking some time away from the UFC. There were many that thought that the "Prodigy" had fought for the last time in the Octagon - after all, what more did he have to accomplish?

Penn decided that he wasn't done, however, and was lured out of "retirement" by the prospect of another crack at Frankie Edgar.

BJ Penn wants to make one last run at a title before he retires, and Frankie Edgar is standing in his way. What will happen on July 6th? I can't wait.
