Brendan Schaub Signs Six Fight Deal With Promotion

Much to his credit, Brendan Schaub was able to turn his career around following a rough patch, and he was rewarded earlier today after inking a new six-fight deal with the UFC.

Following two straight losses to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell, Brendan "The Hybrid" Schaub was in a must-win situation. One more loss, it was assumed, and Schaub would be given his walking papers by the UFC.

Although the match was far from glorious, Schaub was able to secure a much needed victory against Lavar Johnson at UFC 157 in February of 2013. The win was ugly, but it gave Schaub some breathing room.

Schaub followed up this performance with a very impressive win over Matt Mitrione at UFC 165. Schaub's ground game has been much maligned, but he managed to put away "Meathead" with a d'arce choke.

Schaub, who was likely one loss away from being cut, had suddenly put together a two fight winning streak.

The UFC decided to reward Schaub by giving him a new six-fight deal earlier this week. The Heavyweight division is fairly thin, which certainly worked to Schaub's advantage, but you still have to give him credit for turning in two straight wins after seemingly being on the ropes.

Brendan Schaub's next opponent is not yet known, but you can safely assume that he will see a big step up in competition.
