Will Jones Be Stripped of His Interim Title?

This past weekend, the UFC removed both Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones from their rankings. Brock Lesnar was removed from the Heavyweight rankings, while Jones was removed from both the Light Heavyweight and P4P rankings.

Both men were popped by USADA over the past month. Jones tested positive and was removed just prior to UFC 200, which resulted in Jones being pulled from the event at the last minute. Anderson Silva took Jones' spot, losing to Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier via unanimous decision.

Brock Lesnar, on the other hand, received his positive results after the conclusion of UFC 200. Lesnar defeated Mark Hunt via unanimous decision.

With both Jones and Lesnar facing multi-year suspensions, the UFC took steps to remove both men from their rankings.

With Lesnar fighting a "one-off" at UFC 200, there is certainly almost no chance that he will ever fight in the UFC again. Assuming that he gets a two-year suspension, Lesnar would be 40 years old by the time that he would be eligible to return to the Octagon. Given his recent drug test, it seems unlikely that the UFC would welcome him back, as Lesnar's name has taken a major blow to its reputation.

Jon Jones is a different story, however, as many people are still interested in seeing him fight. There is a chance that Jones could receive a 4-year suspension, though assuming that he gets two years, he would still be fairly young when his suspension ends. Many people will want the question answered - how will Jones perform following his two year suspension? In addition, while Daniel Cormier says that he has moved on from Jones, many fans still want to see the Jones/Cormier rematch.

In short - the UFC has removed Lesnar and Jones from their rankings for now. Expect Jones to return to the UFC in the return, while Lesnar is almost certainly done.
