Brock Lesnar Overwhelms Mark Hunt To Win First Fight in Five Years

The stakes were incredibly high for Brock Lesnar and the WWE when Lesnar elected to return to the UFC earlier this summer.

Lesnar is currently under contract with the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). Lesnar, when he re-signed with the WWE, was presumably able to include language that allowed him to return to the UFC for a fight if he so desired.

Earlier this year, Lesnar exercised this term in his contract and announced that he was returning to the UFC. For the UFC, there wasn't much to lose - Lesnar was coming back for what was presumably a one-off fight, and they would rake in the money from the increased PPV buys. Whether Lesnar won or last, it didn't really matter to the UFC.

The WWE, on the other hand, was in a much more vulnerable position. The wrestling promotion has built Lesnar up as an unbeatable beast - having Lesnar get knocked out at the hands of Mark Hunt would have put a severe dent in Lesnar's WWE persona.

Thankfully for the WWE, Lesnar put on a vintage performance on Saturday night, overwhelming Mark Hunt to earn the unanimous decision victory. After a dominant first round, Lesnar survived the second and then destroyed Hunt on the ground in the third. In addition, Lesnar was able to absorb some shots from the heavy-hitting Hunt. The narrative heading into the fight was that Lesnar would melt if he got hit once by Hunt, but that didn't turn out to be the case.

The King is thrilled at the news of potentially seeing more of Brock Lesnar in the UFC, following a dominanting performance vs. Mark Hunt

In short, Lesnar's performance on Saturday night was a dream scenario for the UFC, WWE and Lesnar himself. Lesnar now has the door open for a possible return to the UFC, which increases his bargaining power with the WWE. In addition, the WWE will be able to build up Lesnar's character even more - after all, if Mark Hunt is unable to beat Lesnar in a fight, how could any character in the WWE universe?
