Brock Lesnar Rumors Dashed By His Return to WWE

Published on January 2nd, 2014 5:26 pm EST

In the lead-up to UFC 168: Silva vs Weidman 2, the scuttlebutt was that former UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was angling for a return to the promotion.

When pressed on the issue, UFC President Dana White did nothing to extinguish the rumors, instead giving a cryptic "We'll see" response when asked about Lesnar's possible appearance at UFC 168. The rumor had it that Lesnar and his representatives would be attending the event and meeting with UFC brass afterwards, presumably about a return to the Octagon for Lesnar.

The rumors seemed to make a bit of sense for a couple of reasons:

1) The UFC just lost their biggest PPV draw in Georges St. Pierre, and a reappearance of Lesnar in the promotion would help to boost sagging PPV sales

2) Lesnar's contract with the UFC presumably expired at the end of 2013

Brock Lesnar was nowhere to be seen at UFC 168, and he turned up at WWE's Monday Night Raw on December 30th and participated in an angle with Mark Henry.

The WWE quickly issued a press release re: Lesnar, stating that the behemoth was signed with the wrestling promotion through 2014, and that there was no wiggle room in his contract that would allow him to return to the UFC (at least while under contract with the WWE).

Dana White and Vince McMahon have a chummy relationship, and it appears as though Dana White was in on the deception. He could have doused the rumors with a single sentence, but instead he chose to play along.

In short - Brock Lesnar will not be returning to the UFC anytime soon.
