Ronda Rousey Looks Unbeatable

In case you have been living underneath a rock, "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey is set to defend her Bantamweight title against Holly Holm in Australia this weekend. The card is expected to make history for a couple of reasons, as it will be the first time that four women have headlined a numbered UFC PPV event, plus there is expected to be a record-setting crowd of over 70,000 in attendance.

According to the oddsmakers, Holly Holm has virtually no chance of winning. Ronda Rousey is currently a -2000 favourite to win, which means that, on paper, this is one of the most lopsided fights in the history of the UFC.

With that being said, anything can happen in the UFC on any given day.

The problem that Holly Holm has is that there is only one path to victory for her, and that is on the feet. If Holly Holm can somehow engage Ronda Rousey for five rounds on the feet, there is a slight chance that she may win. Holm was unable to knock out Marion Reneau or Raquel Pennington in her most recent fights, so it seems unlikely that she would be able to knock out the champion.

The problem that Holm has is that she is seriously deficient (at least compared to Rousey) when it comes to both grappling and the ground game. It is well-documented that Rousey is an Olympic judo bronze medalist, plus she is absolutely savage on the ground. As people are prone to say, there are only three certainties in life - death, taxes and Rousey by armbar. Much more seasoned ground fighters have fallen victim to Rousey, so there is no reason to think that Holm will be any different.

If Rousey wants to take the fight to the ground, she will. With her exceptional grappling, all Rousey will have to do is get inside of Holm to take her to the ground. After that, you would have to think that Rousey would be able to end the fight in a reasonably short period of time.

In short - this fight will likely last as long as Rousey feels like, and it seems that Holm has a virtually impossible task in front of her on Saturday. I see no path to victory for Holm in this fight.
