Condit Looking At Possible Nick Diaz Rematch

Carlos Condit, who has been out of action for nearly a year due to a torn ACL, is plotting his comeback.

The former interim Welterweight title holder has signalled his intentions to make his return to the Octagon. While not 100% healthy, Condit is close enough now that he is starting to make plans for his future.

When asked in a recent interview as to who he would like to fight next, Condit indicated that one of his former foes would be his opponent of choice.

Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit had an extremely close fight at UFC 143, with Condit getting the nod via unanimous decision. Diaz was frustrated by Condit over the course of that fight as Condit consistently moved away from the former Strikeforce Welterweight champion. Diaz was so frustrated after the fight, in fact, that he temporarily "retired".

There were rumors of a Diaz/Condit rematch earlier in the year but Diaz reportedly turned down the fight. Diaz has indicated that he is only interested in "big" fights going forward and it is hard to imagine that a rematch against Condit would particularly tickle his fancy.

If Diaz wants another crack at the Welterweight title, however, he may be forced to go through Condit, who is consistently one of the division's top fighters.

Carlos Condit has dropped three of his last four fights, though his last loss (against Tyron Woodley at UFC 171) came as a result of his torn ACL. Prior to that, Condit dropped fights to Johny Hendricks and Georges St. Pierre and defeated Martin Kampmann via TKO.

All three fights earned Fight of the Night distinctions. It's not hard to see why the UFC is greatly anticipating Condit's return to the Octagon, as he is a wildly entertaining fighter who never turns in a subpar effort.
