Zingano Eyeing Title Fight Against Ronda Rousey

At the Ultimate Fighter 17 finale in April of 2013, Cat Zingano defeated Miesha Tate to earn herself a shot at Ronda Rousey’s Women’s Bantamweight title.

In addition, Zingano also earned the right to coach opposite of Rousey on the next season of the Ultimate Fighter. So, not only did Zingano earn herself a shot at the title, but she also earned herself the chance to gain some significant exposure on the Ultimate Fighter.

Unfortunately for Zingano, fate struck a cruel blow when she blew out her knee. The UFC gave Zingano's title shot and spot on the Ultimate Fighter to Miesha Tate and Zingano was left to endure a gruelling rehab on her knee.

It’s been a year since Zingano's last fight and she is now healthy enough to start eyeing a return to the Octagon.

Zingano was interviewed on the latest "Inside MMA" show and revealed that she would like to fight Ronda Rousey in the "late summer". Assuming that she returns to the Octagon in late August or early September, this would mean that Zingano would need to start a training camp by the end of May.

Of course, Zingano's hopes of fighting Ronda Rousey could be derailed by Gina Carano, who recently revealed that she is meeting with UFC President Dana White this week to discuss her future. If Carano decides to return to fighting, Zingano may have to forego her title shot for now so that Rousey can defend against Carano. There is no bigger fight out there right now than Carano/Rousey, and Zingano will have to wait if the UFC can make that mega-fight happen.

At the end of the day, Zingano should be returning to the Octagon over the next few months, which is good news to any fan of mixed martial arts.
