UFC Will Need To Decide Which Title Fights To Add To Card

The UFC recently revealed that Georges St. Pierre will be squaring off against Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 217 in November. This will be the promotion's second trip to Madison Square Garden, and they are certain to absolutely stack the card.

Most champions in the UFC have PPV points automatically added to their contracts. For that reason, getting on a New York card that is headlined by Georges St. Pierre vs Michael Bisping is obviously going to be great for their pocket books, as the card will likely sell more than 1 million PPV buys.

For that reason, a number of champions are scrambling to get included on the card.

Earlier today, Cody Garbrandt pitched the idea of his Bantamweight title defence against TJ Dillashaw being featured on the card.

There have also been rumors of JJ taking on Rose "Thug" Namajunas.

The UFC reportedly wanted to have Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino defend her title on the card against Holly Holm, though Cyborg is reportedly more interested in fighting in late December instead.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are angling to fight on the MSG card, with the interim Lightweight title (and a likely shot at Conor McGregor, should he return to the UFC) on the line.

As if all of that weren't enough, there are also strong rumors of Frankie Edgar vs Max Holloway being added to the card as well. This would make a great deal of sense given Edgar's strong connection to the area.

The UFC will likely follow the blueprint of UFC 205 - a very big main event (Bisping vs GSP), a women's title fight (possibly Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Rose Namajunas) and a third title fight. I can't see anyway that the UFC puts more than three title fights on this card. The third title fight is likely to be Edgar vs Holloway, in my opinion, though whether or not both men will be ready is the question.

There is always the possibility that the UFC could make Ferguson vs Nurmagomedov a three round fight if the interim title is not on the line.

If I was a betting man, I'd say that the UFC 217 card will end up looking something like this:

Bisping vs GSP
Joanna Champion vs Thug Rose
Edgar vs Holloway
Nurmagomedov vs Ferguson

If you ask me, that's the card of the year right there.

The UFC still has a schedule to fill out for the rest of the year, which is why I think that Garbrandt vs Dillashaw will take place on another card. Garbrandt vs Dillashaw and Cyborg vs Holm would seem perfect to headline the UFC's New Year's Eve card.
