Weidman vs Machida Set For UFC 175 Main Event

The UFC revealed yesterday that Middleweight champion Chris Weidman required minor surgery on his knee, and that his planned bout against Lyoto Machida had been pushed back to the July 5th card.

With that announcement, UFC 173 loses its main event and Weidman vs Machida is the new main event for UFC 175.

According to reports, Weidman suffered a minor knee injury during training and will go under the knee to fix the problem. Weidman is expected to recover quickly from the surgery.

After Machida vs Weidman was pulled, the main card of UFC 173 now looks like this:

Junior dos Santos vs Stipe Miocic
TJ Dillashaw vs Takeya Mizugaki
Tony Ferguson vs Katsunori Kikuno
Jamie Varner vs James Krause

Will the UFC push Dos Santos vs Miocic to the main event of this card, or will they look for another fight to take the place of Machida vs Weidman? The Memorial Day long weekend card is usually one of the UFC's biggest of the year, which makes me think that they will try and find another main or co-main event fight. There is always the possibility that the UFC moves Penn vs Edgar III to this card, which is scheduled to take place the very next day at the Ultimate Fighter finale.

UFC 173 has had a number of different fights fall through, including:

Vitor Belfort vs Chris Weidman
Lyoto Machida vs Chris Weidman
Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva

There was some talk that the UFC wanted to put Alistair Overeem vs Junior dos Santos on this card, but Overeem reportedly turned down the fight due to a rib injury. This resulted in UFC President Dana White claiming that Overeem was "hiding" from Dos Santos.
