Will McGregor and Mayweather Ever Fight?

What could Conor McGregor possibly do to top his victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205? What fight could possibly be bigger than the main event of the first ever UFC card at Madison Square Garden?

Under the old UFC ownership regime, there was almost no chance that Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Conor McGregor would ever fight. Under WME-IMG, however, things have changed and there is now at least a remote possibility that we may see Mayweather and McGregor fight each other.

In the aftermath of UFC 205 this past Saturday night, Mayweather was asked if he had watched the fight. Mayweather said that he hadn't, and that comparing McGregor to Mayweather was like comparing an ant to an elephant.

McGregor predictably responded, saying that he would thrash Mayweather in a "real" fight, and that it would take $100 million for him to step into a boxing ring against Mayweather.

Mayweather, who is "retired" but has been making noises about another fight, would likely never step into the Octagon to take on McGregor. Mayweather is smart enough to know that there is virtually no chance that he would ever beat Conor McGregor in a MMA fight.

Boxing, however, would be a different story, and Mayweather would have the decided advantage. The big question is - could WME-IMG and Mayweather ever come together to co-promote a boxing match between Mayweather and McGregor? It seems as though both sides would stand to make a tremendous amount of money, though with the number of people involved, it could be nearly impossible to put together the fight. After all, look at how long it took the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight to come together.

Conor McGregor will have no problem being involved in huge fights that will make him many millions of dollars - there is no shortage of mega-fights for the Featherweight and Lightweight title holder.

For Floyd Mayweather, however, the number of fights that could sell millions of PPVs is quickly dwindling to Conor McGregor and pretty much nobody else.

If Mayweather wants one more massive payday before he retires, Conor McGregor is the fight for "Money" to make.

Conor McGregor, however, won't come cheap, as he says that he will need $100 million to box Mayweather.
