Audie Attar Says That McGregor is Interested in Third Diaz Fight, With Stipulation

Earlier this week, Conor McGregor's manager, Audie Attar, said that Nate Diaz needs to get McGregor "excited" in order for a trilogy fight to happen.

McGregor and Diaz are currently 1-1 against each other, with Diaz winning via submission at UFC 196 and McGregor winning via unanimous decision at UFC 202. McGregor has said that he is interested in a third fight, but only at 155 pounds.

Diaz, for his part, has said that he plans to remain on the sidelines until the third McGregor fight.

Attar, however, said that Nate's plan of sitting on the sidelines likely won't work, as McGregor needs to get "excited" about a trilogy fight. The best way to do that, Attar said, is for Diaz to square off against Tony Ferguson for the interim Lightweight title.

The King is sitting in his office and speaking into the mic. The topic is Mixed Martial Arts.

McGregor is still hoping to step into the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather later in the year, as that fight would likely bring McGregor a $75 million payday. According to UFC President Dana White, Mayweather is the last piece of the puzzle that needs to fit into place, as McGregor has already agreed to the fight.

If that fight doesn't happen, McGregor has a few options, including:

-defending the Lightweight title against one of Ferguson or Diaz
-jumping up to Welterweight to take on Tyron Woodley

It doesn't seem like McGregor will defend against either Ferguson or Diaz without them fighting each other first, however. With Diaz already stating that he is done until he gets the third McGregor fight, this likely won't end up happening. You can't really fault Diaz in this, as he stands to make millions from a third McGregor fight. If he loses against Ferguson, he runs the risk of losing his spot to take on McGregor.

Once the situation with the McGregor/Mayweather fight is resolved, things should fall into place quickly. Until then, everybody will likely have to wait.
