Conor McGregor Likely To Get Next Shot at Title

According to UFC President Dana White, emerging superstar Conor McGregor is likely going to get the next shot at the Featherweight title.

Despite the fact that McGregor is not the #1 contender in the division according to the rankings, Dana White has stated that each of the men currently in front of McGregor has already lost to Jose Aldo. Let's look at the current Featherweight rankings:

C - Jose Aldo
#1 - Chad Mendes
#2 - Cub Swanson
#3 - Frankie Edgar
#4 - Ricardo Lamas

Aldo has, in fact, beaten Mendes, Swanson, Edgar and Lamas already. As a matter of fact, if Aldo beats Mendes at UFC 179, he will have beaten the Featherweight challenger for the second time in his career.

Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar will be meeting later in the year and there was some thought that the winner of that fight could be the next challenger for Aldo. However, given McGregor's rapid emergence in the division, the UFC will almost certainly give the title shot to McGregor. Lorenzo Fertitta recently stated that McGregor "moves the needle" on PPV and I highly doubt that the UFC will hold off on booking a money fight between McGregor and the winner of Mendes/Aldo.

In the end, it's all about one thing - money. Fortunately for the UFC, however, they can also make a very strong case that McGregor is, in fact, the #1 contender for the Featherweight title.
