Fight Reportedly Would Have Taken Place in Mexico

Earlier today, an article popped up that claimed that UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez would be defending his title against Fabricio Werdum in the main event of UFC 172.

The article claimed that the card would be taking place in Mexico City in April.

The rumor seemed, at the very least, to be possible, as the UFC has repeatedly made it clear that they wish to hold cards in the Mexican market, and what better way to do it than with UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez? In addition, the timeline would seem to make sense, as a fight in April would seemingly give Velasquez time to heal from his recent tilt against Junior dos Santos.

Dana White threw cold water on this rumor earlier today.

According to White, Cain Velasquez is currently tending to an injured shoulder that may require surgery. While White didn't deny that the UFC was interested in holding Velasquez/Werdum in Mexico, he did say that Velasquez would not be ready in time for an April fight.

So, there you go - the Velasquez/Werdum fight will NOT be happening in April.
