Junior dos Santos Still Healing After Surgery

Earlier this week, UFC President Dana White revealed that the next Heavyweight title shot will be going to either Stipe Miocic or Andrei Arlovski.

During a Q&A on Periscope, White admitted that Junior dos Santos likely would have gotten the title shot. The problem? Junior dos Santos underwent surgery for an injury in his right knee after his most recent fight with Stipe Miocic and has still not been cleared to return. This means that either Stipe Miocic or Andrei Arlovski will get the next title shot against new Heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.

Andrei Arlovski is currently in the midst of a five-fight winning streak that includes wins over Travis Browne, Antonio Silva and Brendan Schaub. Nobody gave Arlovski much of a chance to make a dent in the Heavyweight division when he returned to the promotion last year, but he has gone on a surprising winning streak that has people talking about a title shot.

Stipe Miocic has won four of his last five fights, including wins over Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt. Miocic did lose to Junior dos Santos in December of 2014, but that fight was somewhat marred by controversy as many people felt as though Miocic won the fight.

There is no doubt that both Stipe Miocic vs Fabricio Werdum and Andrei Arlovski vs Fabricio Werdum would both be entertaining fights.

My guess is that Stipe Miocic ends up with the next title shot, while Andrei Arlovski may be forced to win one more fight. Staying on the sidelines doesn't make sense for Arlovski, as Junior dos Santos will eventually be returning to the fold and will likely get an immediate title shot upon his return. Velasquez vs Arlovski? That is a fight that we might see - a winnable fight for Velasquez and a clear title shot for Arlovski if he happens to win.

One thing is for sure - the Heavyweight division is much more interesting than it was six months ago.
