UFC President Not Expecting Return of Georges St. Pierre

For a long period of time, UFC President Dana White was openly predicting that former Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre would be returning to the Octagon.

At the time, Dana White and the UFC desperately needed Georges St. Pierre and his star power. After all, approximately 18 months ago, Jon "Bones" Jones was arguably the biggest star that the UFC had on their roster.

Times have changed, however, and Georges St. Pierre is no longer needed to buoy the fortunes of the UFC. After all, two of the biggest stars in the history of the sport, Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor, have re-inflated the sails of the UFC, and the organization is no longer reliant on the returns of either GSP or Brock Lesnar. New stars have emerged who are arguably bigger than Brock Lesnar and Georges St. Pierre.

In a recent press conference in Australia to promote UFC 193, Dana White was asked about the possibility of GSP returning to the promotion. White said that GSP is rich and "living the good life" and is likely not going to be fighting again.

Georges St. Pierre last fought almost two years ago against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167. St. Pierre won via a controversial split decision and announced that he would be leaving the sport for an undetermined period of time shortly after. Animosity between GSP and the UFC grew, with GSP calling on some serious drug testing reforms to be introduced to the sport.

The UFC and St. Pierre had a meeting about a year or so ago in Montreal, with the former champion reportedly updating the promotion as to his status. According to reports, the UFC offered St. Pierre a fight against Anderson "The Spider" Silva a short while after, with St. Pierre declining the fight due to the fact that he wasn't actively training.

In short, it seems very unlikely that St. Pierre will ever fight again. Taking two years off from the sport and subsequently returning at a high level is nearly impossible to do, and St. Pierre has already cemented himself as one of the greatest of all time. In addition, with the UFC now enjoying a fresh crop of new stars, the promotion likely won't be pushing St. Pierre too hard to return.
