Vitor Belfort Can Earn Another Shot At Middleweight Title

Published on November 7th, 2013 6:07 pm EST

The main event of UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs Henderson will feature Dan Henderson vs Vitor Belfort in a Light Heavyweight tilt.

There is plenty on the line for both fighters in this one - Dan Henderson is looking to avoid what could be a career ending three fight losing streak, while Vitor Belfort is looking to make it three in a row at Middleweight.

The fight for Vitor Belfort has taken on additional importance in recent days, as UFC President Dana White has promised Belfort the next shot at the Middleweight title if he beats Henderson on Saturday night. This is assuming, of course, that there isn't another immediate rematch when Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman square off in December.

Vitor Belfort has been on a tear since dropping back down to the Middleweight division earlier this year. Belfort flattened both Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold with amazing head kicks, finishing off both of his opponents in short order. Belfort immediately started campaigning for a title shot after his win over Luke Rockhold, but eventually decided to fight Dan Henderson after turning down a number of other fights.

Dan Henderson, on the other hand, has dropped two straight close decisions to Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans.

Can Vitor Belfort avenge a 2006 loss to Dan Henderson and earn himself another shot at the UFC Middleweight title? We'll find out this Saturday in Brazil.
