Vitor Belfort Likely Next in Line for Title Shot

According to UFC President Dana White, Vitor Belfort will very likely be getting the next shot at the Middleweight title.

In the main event of UFC 168 this Saturday, Anderson Silva will be taking on Chris Weidman for the Middleweight title. Weidman won the title earlier in the year, shocking practically the entire MMA viewing public. After a long, long title reign, Anderson Silva had finally lost.

According to Dana White, the winner of Weidman/Silva 2 will almost certainly be fighting Vitor Belfort in their next fight, barring some sort of situation where a Weidman/Silva 3 fight is made necessary (controversial decision, etc).

Vitor Belfort has been on an absolute tear since dropping back down to the Middleweight division. Michael “The Count” Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson have all been destroyed during Belfort’s recent reign of terror. Belfort’s stoppage of Henderson was particularly impressive, as this was the first time that Henderson had ever been knocked out over the course of his career.

Given Belfort’s recent surge, there is no denying that a Belfort/Silva rematch would be intriguing, should that fight end up happening. Sure, Silva destroyed Belfort the first time they met, but Belfort seems to have gotten his game together and seems more lethal than ever. Belfort/Silva 2 would be an easy sell to fans, in my opinion, as would Belfort/Weidman.
